Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to have a diagnosis for coaching?
Absolutely not. I welcome all who may just want to learn more about themselves, whether it’s related to ADHD or not.
Is ADHD Coaching covered by Insurance?
Unfortunately, coaching is not covered by insurance as I am not a licensed clinical practitioner, and coaching is not considered medical treatment. That said, there is the possibility you may be able to use your FSA (flexible spending account) funds to pay for coaching if they receive a letter or prescription for ADHD coaching from a therapist or primary care physician. Please make sure to contact your benefits provider to confirm if this is possible. In these cases, my clients pay out of pocket and I provide them with receipts to submit for reimbursement after the fact.
Another option is to ask your employer if they offer any professional development funds for coaching. Not everyone is comfortable disclosing an ADHD diagnosis, so some clients refer to this as "executive function" or "productivity" coaching. I'm happy to adjust the label on the invoice to whatever term you are most comfortable with.
Coaching may also be considered Professional Development and may be considered a tax-deductible expense. You'll need to check with a tax professional to clarify.
Are the sessions Confidential?
The coaching relationship, as well as all information (documented or verbal) that the Client shares with the Coach as part of this relationship, is bound by the principles of confidentiality set forth in the ICF Code of Ethics. However, please be aware that the Coach-Client relationship is not considered a legally confidential relationship (like the medical and legal professions), and thus, communications are not subject to the protection of any legally recognized privilege. The Coach agrees not to disclose any information pertaining to the Client without the Client's written consent.
Are the sessions in-person or virtual?
I currently offer both in-person and virtual settings. The in-person sessions are located in San Luis Obispo, California.
